Hollywood, CA, 08/08/2013 (nysepost) –The thankless job in the cancelled film “Smash” of NBC was given to Jack Davenport for portraying a hot shot director-choreographer who thought Katharine McPhee was the perfect Marilyn Monroe for his Broadway production. But now, he will get a much happier role in 1960s-set Breathless for PBS for playing the role of an OBGYN in London. The executive producer of Masterpiece, Rebecca Eaton confirmed his casting at Summer TV Press Tour 2013. This drama show for the television is co-produced by ITV Studios.
The May’s report of Deadline is also confirmed by Eaton that the role of Mr. Darcy in the 3rd part adaptation of “Death Comes to Pemberley” of PBS will be played by Matthew Rhys. This drama is based on the novel by P.D. James. In this novel, he imagines Jane Austen’s Elizabeth and Darcy 6 years after they marry and as they are preparing for their annual ball, a body turns up at Pemberley.
The role of Elizabeth is played by Anna Maxwell Martin in the drama and this drama is timed to mark the 200th anniversary of the publication of Pride and Prejudice of Jane Austen. The filming of this drama will be done in Yorkshire and Origin Pictures is producing for BBC One. The series is expected to run during the holidays at the end of the year.
By way of titillating TV critics, Eaton said that they are very well aware of the concern about the distance between their broadcast [of Sherlock] and the British broadcast. She added that all of them are working very hard to find the best possible way that will do best for their fans and will do best for their show. The critics were disappointed as they had been expecting Rebecca Eaton to announce a date for the show.
Not so long time ago, Masterpiece could not find a corporate sponsor after the bailment of ExxonMobil and now, Eaton called it as an “unbelievable season” for the Masterpiece. Eaton gloated that their ratings from September, 2012 to July, 2013 are up by 33 percent. She noted that their previous sponsors Ralph Lauren and Viking River Cruises are returning for the coming season.
Eaton announced another department-store show for Masterpiece. This show is an 8 hour BBC miniseries which will make a debut on 6th of October and is named as The Paradise. This show is based on the novel, The Ladies’ Paradise by Emile Zola, about a young girl who gets a job in a department store.
