Videocon Mobiles ties up with Reliance Jio to the Welcome Preview Offer

The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), an organisation that represents Bharti Airtel, Vodafone, Idea and others, had protested a year ago, saying Jio was giving out full-fledged services to customers under the guise of testing.

"The matter related to interconnectivity between service providers is within the purview of the Trai", an official told, citing various sections of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India Act of 1997.

"They (operators) wish to politely clarify that they are in no position, by way of network resources, or financial resources, to terminate volumes of traffic which are markedly asymmetric".

There has been a war of words going on between the industry body COAI and Jio, since Reliance announced its full fledged services roll out.

"Freebies can not be extended beyond 90 days".

"Customers are being offered discounts on their rentals for six months and asked to wait for sometime as their operator will try to offer more schemes of discounted tariff in coming days".

"We expect Bharti Airtel's operating performance to weaken because of competitive data tariffs and free voice calls", S&P said, adding that it expects revenue growth for the company's domestic business to decline to below 5% during the fiscal year ending March 31, 2018 and 2019, from 10% in fiscal 2016.

The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), a lobby of telecom operators that represents these telcos and others, however, responded that all of its members should be called for the meeting.

Some users may get their hands on the SIM cards, yet they are facing issues with the activation of the SIM card. This will result from a potentially double traffic from Jio, than their own network.

Ambani is said to have constructed almost 100,000 telecoms towers across India and estimates that Jio already covers some 18,000 cities and 200,000 villages. If enough points, RelJio users won't be able to make calls to other networks. It remains to be seen as to how customers respond to the launch offer of free voice and data services. Reliance Jio then accused the telcos of breach of licence agreement and requested Trai to take action against them.

"Large telecom companies including Bharti Airtel, Vodafone India and Idea Cellular have already undertaken pre-emptive measures such as price cuts for higher data volumes at former price to retain its customers", Tanu Sharma, Associate Director - Large Corporates, Ind-Ra was quoted as saying by Deccan Chronicle.

The Jio Preview Offer basically offers the users three months of unlimited calling, texting and 4G data usage.
