Two Governors endorse Donald Trump

Two Governors endorse Donald Trump

While Christie's own campaign for president failed to gain traction in a crowded field, he nonetheless remains a well-regarded figure in the GOP, having served as a top surrogate to 2012 nominee Mitt Romney and as the former chair of the Republican Governors Association.

With Christie's endorsement of Trump on deck and Super Tuesday just next week, more endorsements from NJ Republicans can soon be expected.

"I think it's great news that he's endorsing Donald Trump", said Doherty, who represents a conservative district in northern New Jersey. But yet again, the New Jersey governor took Rubio out at the knees with his surprise endorsement.

"I was Donald Trump before Donald Trump became popular, so I think I should support him since we are one of the same cloth", LePage said.

Rubio and Cruz are fighting on multiple fronts - both need to win their respective home states in upcoming primaries and both are trying to maintain enough steam to stay in the race for the Republican presidential nomination. "Trump's got the momentum...he's about to walk away with this".

Mr Rubio, still viewed as the most viable anti-Trump candidate, has based his presidential ambitions around a victory in Florida, which will vote on March 15.

Christie was right then, and he's being cravenly opportunistic now.

Democratic National Committee National press secretary Mark Paustenbach said that Christie's endorsement is the best example yet that the GOP is the party of Trump.

The timing immediately following the debate, however, appeared to be a coincidence.

The New York Times, which too came under attack by Trump as "dishonest" and "the absolute worst,", dismissed "the bombastic governor's" announcement as a "Bully Bromance" even as it acknowledged how it might give a significant boost to Trump.

It was a high moment for Christie's campaign. Some of that anger stemmed from a super PAC supporting the Florida senator that was responsible for much of the negative advertising that Christie's campaign and his allies have blamed for his loss in the race.

Rubio read the first Trump tweet, which accused Rubio of being a "choker" but misspelled the term. "You guys don't let any of the rest of us do that", Christie said, as reported by Politico. He said that during the commercial breaks it was actually Trump who was melting down amid Rubio's attacks.

Trump dominates in a head-to-head match up with Rubio. He is a successful person that, like me, isn't afraid to tell it like it is. In announcing his endorsement, Christie noted that he has known Trump for a number of years and that the two men have worked together effectively in the past.

"I think he's just being himself".

"I'll be very honest".

"Scared like a little frightened puppy".
