Twitter Down: Social Network Suffers Widespread Technical Problems

Twitter down, suffers worldwide outage

Netizens have experienced issues mostly in the eastern and western parts of the United States, including NY and Los Angeles, with outages also being reported in the United Kingdom and Japan, according to the outage map.

Although the website can still be accessed, many users are seeing 'Error. Users in the United States, Germany, Japan and Australia among others were being greeted with error messages and frozen timelines. The platform experienced an hour-long outage in July 2019, one lasting several hours a year ago and yet another last February.

Twitter in a statement said that its micro-blogging platform was down for many users earlier in the day due to some trouble with its internal systems. "Twitter should be working for everyone within the next few hours", the company said.

'Our communication around our actions on the NYPost article was not great. Blocking URL sharing via Tweet or direct message without context about the reason for the blocking: "Unacceptable".

Social media platforms like Twitter have become lifelines for many as a source of news and information-particularly during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

After Twitter imposed the restrictions, the US Senate Judiciary Committee moved to summon Dorsey.

The problem began at 5:35 p.m.

Reports suggested that Twitter was also back up and running about an hour after the outage.

A representative was also quoted saying that they are trying to address this problem as soon as possible and promised to post more and Tweet from @TwitterSupport.

The peak of the outage hit around 10am ET, but much of the service was restored around 10:45am ET.
