Boston, MA – (NYSEPOST) – 03/30/2015 – The Coca Cola Company (NASDAQ:KO) has decided to step up its digital security by taking unprecedented security measures that will affect the cyber security market. The company is about to use the concept of software virtualization, in a new way that will enhance its security while cutting down cost.

Software virtualization is not a new concept. Basically it means substituting software for hardware. This allows systems to be more cost-efficient by reducing the cost of hardware required. Modern data centers make efficient use of this concept to achieve better performance and flexibility. The Coca Cola Company (NASDAQ:KO) has used this concept to create, what the company calls, a software defined perimeter (SDP).

SDP describes the network in more detail and fluid way than the old network perimeters that depend on firewalls. The earlier security measures, which the company used, mostly relied on hardware and security appliances. The new technology will depend heavily on software defined perimeter which will provide a new benchmark of security. The company has been trying to develop the technology for quite some time.

The Coca Cola Company (NASDAQ:KO) collaborated with Mazda Motor Corporation, Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ) and members of Cloud Security Alliance in the development of specifications for SDP. The research began in December 2013 and has now produced the first version of SDP specifications. The Coca Cola Company (NASDAQ:KO) is currently running trials of this technology. The technology first authenticates employee’s device and then creates a one-time use virtual private network that allows him the access as per his security clearance.

A government security expert commented that the technology will cause more thefts of mobile devices. However, it is speculated that if the trial turns out to be successful, the security appliance companies will see a fall. Most notably it will affect Cisco Systems Inc. (NASDAQ:CSCO), Check Point Software Technologies, Ltd. (NASDAQ:CHKP) And Fortinet Inc. (NASDAQ:FTNT).

It remains to be seen if the Coca Cola Company’s (NASDAQ:KO) new technology proves to be a game-changer or just creates fuss for nothing.
