Detective Inspector Scott Beard said just after 3pm a 26-year-old man was found at an address and is speaking to police about the murder of Grace Millane.

More than two dozen police officers have been investigating the 22-year-old's disappearance since she was reported missing earlier this week.

"Grace's family have been advised of this development and they are devastated", Det Insp Beard added.

Grace was last seen wearing a black dress with white sneakers on Queen Street, in Auckland's CBD, at around 9.41pm last Saturday.

He added: "I know that the thoughts of all New Zealanders will be with Grace's family tonight".

Detectives have since assessed Grace's belongings, which were left at the backpackers where she was staying.

'We still do no know where Grace is.

He wouldn't speculate where Grace was killed, Beard said.

"We know that they were together from the time at the Sky City Hotel".

The much loved daughter and sister arrived in New Zealand on November 20, as part of a year-long, worldwide overseas experience that began earlier this year in South America.

Her father David Millane fronted a press conference at Auckland Central Police Station on Friday after flying to New Zealand from Essex.

Members of Millane's family have made appeals on Facebook for information.

Meanwhile, the scene examination at the Citylife hotel is continuing as detectives review hundreds of hours of CCTV footage.

Police believe Millane may have the items with her.

Her father, David Millane, said they last had contact on the day she vanished.

Det Insp Beard confirmed today that the man being questioned by police on Saturday was the same individual.

"The family are devastated, everybody who is a parent out there will understand what this family is going through".

Images of her pale pink watch and silver necklace were released by police after it was noted they were missing from her belongings at the backpackers' hostel where she was staying.

"There is family back in the United Kingdom and our hearts go out to them as well".

Police said enquiries into Grace's disappearance have not led to further confirmed sightings of her.

Described as "fun loving, outgoing and [a] family-orientated person", Millane was never out of contact with family and friends for this long, her family said.
