Stephen Colbert's Painful, Awkward Story About George Lucas' Colbert Report Visit
Nov 11 2015
On the Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Colbert shared a story about Lucas' past visit to The Colbert Report. Colbert didn't have a chance to respond before the show was back on the air, and he apparently wasn't able to explain himself afterward either. In his monologue, Colbert addressed Lucas about a long-standing concern-namely, that the director might actually think that Colbert doesn't know what lightsabers are.
Self-appointed nerd-in-chief Stephen Colbert may have been on hiatus the week that the last USA trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens hit the airwaves, but he wasn't going to sleep on the next one.
"Before Lucas" appearance on my old show, his people at Industrial Light and Magic warned me that George does not call them lightsabers, he calls them "laser swords'", Colbert told the audience on Monday.
"If you're watching tonight, I knew they were called lightsabers", Colbert said in a plea to Lucas on Monday.
Then Colbert discusses his battle with George Lucas, and his off camera embarrassment over the subject of "laser swords".
Stephen Colbert's got a message for George Lucas, and the story behind it is absolutely studded with awkwardness and... what's that feeling called where you feel embarrassed for someone else? I wonder what other fantastic stories Colbert has stockpiled in that brain of his. I don't know about you, but I would be totally cool with The Late Show just being an hour of him talking about embarrassing moments in his life.
