The two astronauts entered quarantine at NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas, on Wednesday in preparation for their upcoming flight to the International Space Station on NASA's SpaceX Demo-2 mission. The couple will hold a press conference at 3 p.m.
The two Shuttle-era astronauts will spend the next week in a familiar facility.
"We feel it as an opportunity but also a responsibility for the American people, for the SpaceX team, for all of NASA", Behnken added.
This will be the first manned launch of a spacecraft from U.S. soil since the space shuttle Atlantis took off on July 8, 2011.
Besides overseeing SpaceX and Boeing's effort to ferry NASA astronauts to the International Space Station, Loverro was in charge of NASA's Artemis moon-landing program.
Astronauts Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley will fly the mission to the ISS.
"You really are a bright light for all of America right now", Bridenstine told them. There were no handshakes for the astronauts, who did not wear masks but kept their distance at separate microphones.
"I nearly wish I was a young astronaut again", he said, referring to NASA's plans to return to the moon in four years.
