The WHO chief stated in a virtual press conference that they have no guarantee that any vaccine in development will work.

World Health Organization has collaborated with global vaccine alliance group Gavi and the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) to launch a scheme called COVAX.

This includes 64 higher-income economies, which are self-financing in procuring the Covid-19 vaccines once available, and 92 low- and middle-income economies eligible for support for the procurement of vaccines through the COVAX Advance Market Commitment (AMC) coordinated by the Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, a financing instrument aimed at supporting the procurement of vaccines for these countries, Xinhua news agency reported.

"Vaccine nationalism will only perpetuate the disease and prolong the global recovery", he said.

The US president Donald Trump said that it has already secured future supplies through bilateral deals with other countries which promoted the selfish behavior to the detriment of poor countries.

The partnership also follows an announcement yesterday by Health Minister Greg Hunt that the Federal Government would pour nearly $6 million into the development of three Australia-made COVID-19 vaccines.

However, in the first stages when the vaccine is expected to be scarce, Kenya will receive doses in little portions until the Ministry of Health has enough to vaccinate three per cent of the population.

She refused to comment on certain countries and said that discussions were ongoing with numerous countries. "On the one hand, Pfizer will supply 9.9 million doses, while Covax Facility will ensure 13 million doses, which means around 11 million people will get the vaccine, considering that two doses will have to be administered to each person", he told RPP radio and TV station.

The countries need to understand that the race to find a cure for Covid-19 is a collaboration. The aim is to have 2 billion doses of vaccine available by end 2021.

"This is a landmark moment in the history of public health with the worldwide community coming together to tackle this pandemic".

The ACT Accelerator also focuses on diagnostic, therapeutics, and health system strengthening beyond vaccine development in their work to alleviate the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. "Today, we have taken a great leap towards that goal, for the benefit of all".

"With Covax, the world is joining forces and proving that together, we are stronger - and together, we can defeat this pandemic", said Ekaterine Tikaradze, Minister of Health for Georgia. Acknowledging these tensions, Dr Tedros stated that the World Health Organization would ensure that the vaccines are for "some people in all countries and not all people in some countries". "It's in every country's best interest. We sink or we swim together", said Tedros. Despite China's uncertain status and the USA declining to take part, the organizers are pressing ahead with their effort to protect the world from the fast-spreading virus as the death toll approaches 1 million.
