Sheriff: 3 dead in gun store shooting in New Orleans suburb
Feb 21 2021
Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joseph Lopinto said a person he described as the initial shooter fired inside the Jefferson Gun Outlet in the suburb of Metairie, striking the two people who were later pronounced dead.
"At this time, it appears a suspect shot two victims inside the location, then was engaged and shot outside the location by multiple other individuals", the sheriff's statement continued.
The gunfire comes roughly two months after a Christmas Eve shooting left two men dead in Metairie, according to the sheriff's office.
A gunman shot two people inside the store.
A man cries out "Where is my son?" at the scene of a multiple fatality shooting at the Jefferson Gun Outlet in Metairie, La., on February 20, 2021.
In that case, police responded to reports of possible gunfire and found both victims dead in a vehicle outside an apartment building on Yale Street. "The two transported victims are in stable condition", the Saturday statement says.
Guns and ammunition are sold in the front of the outlet that faces the main thoroughfare through Jefferson Parish. The man reportedly got into an argument with a clerk at the store for entering the premises with a loaded gun that was unholstered. Staff who work there often wear a sidearm. He said there were multiple shooters in all and investigators had just begun trying to piece together what happened.
None of the dead or wounded were immediately identified and details remained sketchy. A neighboring Taco Bell was evacuated.
