Roy Horn of 'Siegfried and Roy' dies after contracting the coronavirus

Magician Roy Horn speaks at a tribute to the late German artist Jurgen Aldag during an arts festival at the Hofbrauhaus in Las Vegas

"Roy was a fighter his whole life including during these final days", Fischbacher's statement continued. They only returned to the stage for one other appearance in 2009, before officially throwing in the towel the following year.

It was recorded for broadcast on ABC's 20/20.

One half of iconic German magic duo Siegfried & Roy, Horn tested positive for the virus in late April but was previously said to be "responding well to treatment". Siegfried & Roy at The Mirage became a must-see for all Las Vegas visitors and hundreds of notable personalities including Presidents, royalty, Hollywood and sports stars, and dignitaries from all walks of life. Their $10 million compound was home to dozens of rare animals over the years. Their exhibits mixed with magic methods with circus thrills, with performances that includes dozens of uncommon white lions and tigers. In 2010, they retired, according to the news outlet.

Roy gives a white tiger cub a kiss in 2008. "New Yorkers aren't too sophisticated for this". The big cat grabbed Roy by the neck during the act and dragged him offstage.

Their revue ended after Horn was attacked on stage by a white tiger named Mantecore in October 2003, severing his spine. Unbeknownst to him - and the ship's captain - Roy had smuggled his pet cheetah aboard the cruise. Roy was 75 years old. He contended that the tiger had saved his life by dragging him to safety.

The US Department of Agriculture investigated the incident and produced a 233-page report.

"I had high blood pressure at that time, and because of the energy level of the show, I got excited and passed out onstage and fell, unfortunately", Horn explained. Their break came in a Monte Carlo casino when an agent in the audience invited them to Las Vegas.
