Johnson pulls out of second straight golf tournament

Despite world number one Dustin Johnson sidelined after a positive COVID-19 test and U.S. Open champion Bryson DeChambeau taking time off to focus on increasing swing speed ahead of the Masters, the Zozo Championship will still have a strong field.

Just not very many of them.

It's been a long time since I've seen Rory snap, but it happens.

While McIlroy is keen to don the Green Jacket at Augusta National, he is intent on keeping his focus exclusively on the ZOZO Championship, which moved from its home base in Japan to Thousand Oaks, California due to COVID-19 and features a star-studded field including 28 of the top 30 from the final FedExCup points list last season.

Woods, even before Thursday's first round at Sherwood Country Club, must have felt that his game would not be sharp enough for the Masters without more tournament rounds.

"My game's definitely better than it was at the U.S. Open", Woods said.

The 78 contenders, which include the return of five-time event victor Tiger Woods, compete for the $8M prize money.

The 2020 installment of the PGA Tour event will have a vastly different energy to go along with a new, but temporary, location and feel. He does it to defend his title in the ZOZO you got previous year.

"Let's just say that the field is a lot bigger than normal when I have played here".

Adam Scott struck an iron during a Presidents Cup practice round at Royal Melbourne previous year.

Woods said he might play the Houston Open the week before the Masters, but typically takes that week off and tries to ease the strain on his surgically repaired back by seldom playing in consecutive weeks.

According to Golfweek, Bermuda grass is used on golf courses in warm-weather areas, such as Florida and Georgia.

That experience this week falls to Matthew Wolff, who grew up 10 minutes away in Agoura Hills and was so good so young that he was invited to play Sherwood as a young tee and still gets privileges when he comes home.

"I've always enjoyed Sherwood".

"I haven't really been in contention much since coming back from the lockdown", he said.

"The whole idea is to be ready in a few weeks and whether or not that's playing one more event, whether that's Houston or just playing here at Zozo, just making sure that I'm ready for Augusta", he said, via ESPN.

"If local officials there are comfortable with fans on site and the PGA Tour are comfortable in working with local health experts, then I'm all for it", he said on Wednesday.
