Ronaldo left out of Juve squad to face Barcelona

Cristiano Ronaldo missed Juventus' Champions League clash against Lionel Messi's Barcelona, two weeks after testing positive for coronavirus, with the Italian giants losing 2-0 at home on Wednesday in his absence.

Spaniard Alvaro Morata, who scored both goals in Kiev, leads the Juventus attack alongside Argentine Paulo Dybala.

Merih Demiral was dismissed after receiving a second yellow card in the 85th minute before Messi compounded Juve's misery with a cool penalty in stoppage time.

The Juventus forward initially tested positive on October 13 while on worldwide duty with Portugal and has since been in quarantine at his home in Turin. Juventus (1-1) is in second place in the group.

Ronaldo and Messi regularly squared off in Spain's top professional league when Ronaldo played for Real Madrid between 2009 and 2018, but they have never met in Champions League play.

Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci has been included in the list hours before kick-off having been uncertain with a thigh injury, with captain Giorgio Chiellini still out.

Barcelona produced their best performance of the season for victory at Champions League opponents Juventus, says coach Ronald Koeman. The Barcelona striker brought down the long feed before he dribbled to the box with the ball on his left foot.

However, they were rewarded for their bright start in the 14th minute when Dembele's shot from outside the penalty area looped over Szczesny after taking a significant deflection off Federico Chiesa.

Morata found the net for a third time in the 55th minute, but that score also was disallowed due to an offside call.

Morata saw two efforts ruled out either side of Messi dragging wide at the other end after some smart play from Griezmann.

Barcelona and Juventus will renew hostilities on December 8 in the final group stage match.
