Rob Holmes, vice president of Programming at Roku, said, "Today's announcement marks a rare opportunity to acquire compelling new original programming that features some of the biggest names in entertainment". "But from our perspective, it's just great content".

Roku announced today that the Roku Channel will become the exclusive home to 75+ series and documentaries produced by Quibi, which the company told Gizmodo amounts to more than 200 hours of programming.

Quibi lives on. The short-lived streaming service, which was all about extra-short episodes to watch on the go, didn't last more than a year.

Roku has acquired the rights to Quibi's content.

Quibi, short for quick bites, raised $1.75 billion from investors including major Hollywood players like Disney, NBCUniversal and Viacom. The service found itself struggling to find viewers and folded in December 2020, less than eight months after it launched.

"This new design uses Roku's proprietary audio technology to connect the soundbar seamlessly with any Roku TV model wirelessly", the company said in a blog post. It is now the top streaming platform based on the number of viewing hours, according to data firm Kantar. Both previously premiered and new Quibi titles, on which the company spent more than a billion dollars, will be exclusively available, with ads, on the Roku Channel. More than 61 million people watched the offering during the fourth quarter of 2020.

Roku will display content from Quibi in Roku Channel, an app that contains over 40,000 movies and TV shows. Some of it may be better left in the app graveyard, but there are a few Quibi series that Roku Channel subscribers will want to make sure to check out. One person said it was "a lot less" than $ 100 million. "The underlying kind of reason to get started was that there was a lot of content, but it was scattered across literally thousands of channels".

Although the original shows and documentaries might not have been worth Quibi's subscription price, many are definitely worth watching now that they're free. However, there may be options to leverage the stars and producers tapped for Quibi shows in the future.

It remains unclear when Quibi's content will arrive on the Roku Channel. "That's something that we are excited about".
