Rapper Silentó charged with murdering his cousin: cops

The DeKalb County Police Department announced the news in a tweet on Monday, writing: "Today, Ricky Hawk, 23, was arrested for the murder of his cousin Frederick Rooks, 34".
The rapper known as Silento, who released the hit track Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae) in 2015, has been arrested in the USA for allegedly murdering his cousin.
Silento's arrest, who's real name is Richard "Ricky" Lamar Hawk, took place four months after he was charged with assault in LA.

Hawk is in the DeKalb County Jail, they added.
Police responded to a call about a shooting on January 21 and found Rooks with multiple gunshot wounds lying on a road in the Atlanta area suburb of Panthersville, Georgia, according to an incident report from DeKalb County police. A spokesperson for the police told Variety that Rooks was found dead on the morning of January 21 at 3:30 a.m.in a driveway. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Silento was 17 when "Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)" became a viral hit in 2015, reaching No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
A DKPD investigation later identified Hawk, 23, as the suspect, police said. The YouTube video of the song has been seen over 1.7 billion times.
Police said they now working on determining the motive for the killing of Frederick Rooks.
He's been releasing music ever since - and his most recent release, Swish, was released on 28 January 2021.
