PS4 DualShock controllers can't be used to play PS5 games

Headsets will work, but the companion app isn't compatible with PS5. Over on PlayStation Blog, the company revealed which of your current peripherals will work on the new console. The unfortunate news is that your DualShock 4s laying around will not work with PS5 games.
Specialty peripherals, such as officially licensed racing wheels, arcade sticks, and flight sticks, will work with PlayStation 5 games and supported PlayStation 4 games.
With more advanced haptic feedback and trigger systems both coming into play, along with an in-built microphone, it stands to reason that Sony wants its PS5 games to be designed for the new controller, without cutting corners to work with older hardware. The PS4's DualShock 4 controller and licensed third-party controllers will similarly work on "supported PS4 games", but will not work on PS5 games.
That being said, Sony caution that "not all PlayStation officially licensed or third-party peripherals/accessories may work on PS5".
Is the PlayStation Camera for PlayStation 4 compatible with PlayStation 5?
The DualShock 4 controller will work for PS4 supported games on PS5.
This is great news for those who will be purchasing the upcoming next-gen console, since some of the peripherals they may already own for the PlayStation 4, especially ones like the PlayStation VR, are rather expensive items that would be a shame if they weren't compatible. More details on how to get the adapter will be announced at a later date.
