Peyton Manning Broncos QB out Sunday vs. Bears

With Peyton Manning ruled out for Sunday's game at Soldier Field, the Bears will face Broncos quarterback Brock Osweiler. Who?

He still managed to break the National Football League record for all-time passing yards, but since that's really a record of longevity, it's easy to assume his dip in form Sunday, and this season in general, are because of the ravages of old age.

Manning has been dealing with a foot injury in recent weeks and that injury hindered the quarterback on Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning (18) watches from the sidelines during the second half of an NFL football game against the Kansas City Chiefs, Sunday, November 15, 2015, in Denver.

After the way the Chiefs lost to Denver in week two on Thursday Night Football for the entire nation to see, you had to think the Chiefs players were waiting for this rematch all season long.

He also became the first quarterback in 29 years to throw at least four interceptions without completing more than five passes, according to ESPN.

There is no timetable for Manning's return, head coach Gary Kubiak said.

With Osweiler behind center for the Broncos, the offense will likely look a little more like the one Jake Plummer ran for the team during a Kubiak's first stint, on Mike Shanahan's staff, as the Broncos' play-caller. I've been through it as a player.

I felt like the man should have retired at the end of the past year when he limped, literally, into the postseason with the Denver Broncos and limped right back out again. CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canforareported on Monday that Manning "aggravated a partial tear in his plantar fascia [foot]" that he originally suffered against the Colts.

Even if the Broncos did pull off a win over either or both, they would require more help to get a bye or home-field advantage. Manning has thrown nine touchdowns and 17 interceptions in nine games this season, though the Broncos are 7-2.

Manning said that he underwent an MRI examination on his rib cage Monday, but he had not received the results by the time he met with media.

Manning was held out of practice Wednesday and Thursday with the foot injury. "He had the opportunity to learn under one of the best".

"If it had been a coaster all the way, who knows if we could handle adversity down the road", he said, "Now that you've done it on the road, it proves that you can".
