Ohio State Pauses All Voluntary Workouts Following Recent COVID-19 Testing Results

The SEC has not yet announced a decision on its plan with regards to moving to the conference only schedules for the upcoming season.

Unlike a year ago, BYU isn't scheduled to play against any fellow independents this season.

That means UM's September 26 game against Michigan State has been canceled.

Missouri athletic director Jim Sterk was asked about the possible rationale for a conference-only schedule. They would also help out Notre Dame with as many games as needed.

UM's 2021 nonconference schedule includes an opening game against Alabama in Atlanta, plus home games against Appalachian State and Central Connecticut.

Sterk also floated the possibility of adding more games to the conference schedule, as SEC teams play only eight conference games compared to the nine-game slates that the Big Ten and Pac-12 play.

"We are facing uncertain and unprecedented times, and the health, safety and wellness of our student-athletes, coaches, game officials, and others associated with our sports programs and campuses remain our number one priority", statement read.

A domino effect of sorts was created when the Ivy League's decision came Wednesday to postpone all fall sports this year, including football.

Still, the NCAA-approved transition from voluntary to mandatory workouts has already arrived, as schools that open the season August 29 can begin required workouts Monday.

"This decision was made following many thoughtful conversations over several months between the Big Ten Council of Presidents and Chancellors, Directors of Athletics, Conference Office staff, and medical experts including the Big Ten Task Force for Emerging Infectious Diseases and the Big Ten Sports Medicine Committee", the statement says. Details for these sports will be released at a later date, while decisions on sports not listed above will continue to be evaluated.

The athletes who tested positive have to self-isolate for at least 14 days and will receive daily check-ups from the athletic department's medical staff. Students-athletes who live alone will isolate in their residences, the school said, and if they have roommates, they will self-isolate in designated rooms on campus.
