No new Covid-19 cases in the community, one at the border

The total number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in India has crossed 2.80 crore with 18.40 lakh jabs given on Friday till the evening, the ministry had said.

"Of these, 8,05,014 beneficiaries were vaccinated for the first dose and 1,69,076 healthcare and frontline workers received the second dose of vaccine according to the provisional report".

The capital New Delhi has reported a steady rise in infections over the last two weeks, with health authorities cautioning residents against any slackening of hygiene measures.

As the world's largest COVID-19 vaccination drive is underway in the country, India has almost administered three crore cumulative vaccination doses with a total of 2,97,38,409 through 5,10,400 sessions, as per the provisional report till 7 am on Sunday.

Maharashtra continues to report the highest daily new cases at 15,602.

The number of fresh infections is almost 1.7 per cent higher than that of Saturday, when the country registered 24,882 cases.

India's Covid deaths increased by 161 to 158,607 over the last 24 hours, a notable spike considering an average of about a 100 daily deaths since February.

The country's active caseload has reached 2,10,544, which constitutes 1.8 per cent of the total infections.

India is the third-most affected country globally with 11.36 million cases, behind the United States and Brazil. The country's cumulative recoveries stand at 1,09,89,897 today with the national recovery rate standing at 96.75 per cent. Maharashtra saw the maximum casualties (88). It said, in the last 24 hours, 16 thousand 637 people were discharged after recovery.
