Austin mass shooting 13 shot no suspects in custody Police

He asked anyone with information on the shooting to contact police.

The NYPD responded around 5am to Miller Avenue and Fulton Street in the East New York neighborhood of Brooklyn and found a 39-year-old man unresponsive, with a gunshot wound to his head.

The police have few leads regarding the identity of the suspect. The police chief noted that at least 13 patients had received treatment or been transported to local hospitals.

"I'm happy to report no one has died", Chacon said. "So there is a total of 13 shooting victims". Authorities say the shooter appears to have fired randomly.

Chacon said the description that police had of the suspect was "not very detailed" but said the person was believed to be a man. He said he could not elaborate on that detail.

At the time of the shooting, the street was barricaded to allow only pedestrian traffic, Chacon said.

Chacon said Saturday's incident was part of an alarming trend of shootings in Austin.

"It was very hard to contain the scene, it was very hard for EMS to make their way into this crowd", Chacon told reporters. He said that officers had to put some of the shooting victims in patrol cars and take them to the hospital themselves so they could get the urgent care that they needed.

A wider epidemic of deadly shootings is now gripping American cities, with a New York City man fatally shot in the head Friday morning.

"One thing is clear - greater access to firearms does not equal greater public safety".

Thirteen people were shot on 6th Austin early Saturday morning and the shooter is still on the loose.

"Let there be no question: This despicable and cowardly act of gun violence only steals our commitment to making Austin lead the nation in being the safest city in America".

Councilmember Ann Kitchen also said, "there's no place for guns on our streets, as we reopen our city".

As the nation marks the fifth anniversary of the Pulse nightclub massacre in Orlando, Florida, on Saturday, it has a staggering and grim new statistic to contend with for 2021.
