Mike Pompeo calls John Bolton a 'traitor' over explosive memoir
Jun 19 2020
Mr Trump hit back at Mr Bolton, calling him "a liar" in an interview with the Wall Street Journal.
Trump called Bolton a "sick puppy" and a "wacko" on Twitter and said his new memoir - set to be released next week - is "a compilation of lies and made up stories".
The remarks came after US President Donald Trump lambasted Bolton's POTUS-related claims in the book, which was rejected by Trump as "a compilation of lies and made up stories, all meant to make me look bad".
Together, the excerpts portray a United States president mocked by his top advisers who exposed himself to far more extensive accusations of impropriety than those that drove the Democratic-led House of Representatives to impeach him past year.
Mr Trump was accused of withholding American military aid to Ukraine previous year to put pressure on its newly elected President Volodymr Zelensky to provide damaging information on Democratic political opponent Joe Biden.
Bolton pointed to Trump's outreach to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, saying Trump was fixated on the "photo opportunity and press reaction to it" rather than on long-term USA interests.
In the book, excerpts of which were published by three newspapers Wednesday, Bolton alleged that Trump asked Chinese President Xi Jinping for re-election help, voiced support for Beijing's mass incarceration of Uighur Muslims and other minorities and was widely ignorant of the world.
U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer said in Senate testimony that Bolton's account was "absolutely untrue".
According to several U.S. media reports, John Bolton's new book alleges that U.S. President Donald Trump is uninformed and all his decisions were made with the 2020 presidential election in mind. Would I recollect something as insane as that? "This never happened in it for sure".
Now he has a no-holes-barred book due out next week - although the US Justice Department is trying to block publication.
