The Citrus County Chronicle reports that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is now seeking information regarding a manatee that was discovered with "Trump" scraped into its back near the Blue Hole on the Homosassa River.

The Citrus County Chronicle reported Monday that a manatee, a large aquatic mammal sometimes referred to as a "Sea Cow", was found with the words "Trump" scraped in its back.

Here is the video of the poor manatee that had "TRUMP" carved into its body.

Warrington took the photos and videos of the manatee on Sunday, Jan. 10, around 12 p.m. during a manatee swim tour in Homosassa Springs. One expert at the University of Florida told Vice News that the injury would be "virtually non-existent" if the word was simply formed by scraping algae off the animal's back.

She said the manatee was asleep in shallow water at the time.

Almost 600 manatees died in Florida waters in 2020. It was discovered in the Blue Hole on the Homosassa River, according to the newspaper.

A spokeswoman for the US Fish and Wildlife Service did not immediately return a request for comment.

Anyone with information on the situation is encouraged to call the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission at 888-404-FWCC.

Manatees were considered an endangered species until 2017 when that designation was lifted and downgraded to "threatened".

It is unknown when the carving occurred or the political affiliation of those involved, but the Center offered an award of $5,000 for any information leading to the conviction of the perpetrator.
