Long-rumoured Harry Potter RPG reportedly coming to Xbox Series X

JK Rowling leaves Harry Potter video game developers 'uncomfortable'

Two anonymous sources close to the project have revealed to Bloomberg that the project is "very real" and that it is in development by Disney Infinity studio Avalanche Software in Salt Lake City, Utah. Per a new report from Jason Schreier at Bloomberg, this game is not only real but is now being aimed to release in late 2021 on the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5.

The promise of an honest-to-goodness, big-budget, open-world Harry Potter game is fascinating to so many people - fans or otherwise - but the circumstances surrounding it are incredibly unfortunate. The developers are said to be uncomfortable with her views, and studio management reportedly hasn't addressed her recent anti-trans comments. The publisher still hasn't announced the game (due to E3's cancellation), but that doesn't mean it was scrapped or put on hold.

If there is a game that has not yet been formalized, and what is expected when even with impatience, this is what the triple-a Harry Potter who is the subject of rumors from several months ago.

The leaked footage (which you can check out in the video below) looked really promising, so we hope to see more on the game soon.

Rowling doesn't have much involvement in the game's creation, based on what's discussed here.

The rumoured Harry Potter action-RPG is apparently progressing well, and will be revealed in late 2020 for a launch in 2021. "We've seen comments from fans who no longer wish to support Rowling or the brand financially".

Warner Bros. has not responded to Polygon's ask for for remark.

Despite being on track for its release, there's said to be "anxiety" at the studio.

Warner Bros. has not publicly confirmed the game's development, but will reportedly reveal it after the DC FanDome event in August.
