Liverpool join Real Madrid in race for Bayern's Alaba

As many as five clubs have been in contact with the defender's agent to discuss a deal and it has been claimed that Liverpool are amongst them. At least six top European clubs are said to be vying for his signature, with Liverpool being the latest entrants after holding talks with his agent Pini Zahavi. However, they face stiff competition in acquiring the versatile midfielder as Real Madrid is also in the chase.

As a result, Real Madrid maintain their position as the frontrunners to land the Austrian's signature - having offered the defender a four-year deal worth almost £9m a season.

Alaba has spent his entire senior career with Bayern to date and has won nine league titles and two Champions League trophies amongst a vast collection of major honours, though the German giants withdrew their contract offer to the player after being unwilling to match his demands.

While Alaba is still to commit to a new club, there is always an outside chance that Bayern could persuade him to stay.

As a result, Real Madrid are said to be closing in.

Having seen their income drop by £231million, it is believed Barcelona will focus their attention on signing Manchester City's Eric Garcia instead.

One of those clubs is Liverpool, with the Premier League champions keen to reinforce their defensive ranks with a player of proven quality, which Alaba certainly is.

There is a belief he will be able to challenge Raphael Varane and Sergio Ramos.

The same article states that Liverpool FC have already been in touch with Alaba's representatives about a potential move to Anfield in the 2021 summer transfer window following his 11 seasons at Bayern Munich.
