Lakers: Lofty, 'realistic' goals in focus after win streak ends at 10

Thanks to a huge second-half run, that's exactly what he did.

The Los Angeles Lakers fell to the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday afternoon, but star big man Anthony Davis notched quite a few personal wins on the court during the game. "You don't find that combination in 20-year-old guys coming into the National Basketball Association very often", said Rick Carlisle of Doncic. The guys on the floor made good adjustments as a team as the game went along with ball movement, finding space, finding each other.

"It means that we had a good day and did a lot of good things, but we need to stay humble", Carlisle said. The Lakers' longest winning streak in 10 years ended with their largest defeat of the young season. Yet after rallying just before halftime, the Mavericks took off in the third quarter.

Tim Hardaway pitched in with 26 points and three rebounds in 36 minutes as a starter, and since joining the first five, he has provided some much-needed scoring for the Mavericks. Dallas cruised to the 14-point win, marking its seventh in its past eight games.

Doncic averaged 32.4 points, 10.3 rebounds and 10.4 assists in 15 games over November.

Tim Hardaway Jr. added 26 points for the Mavericks, but the team's usual second-leading scorer, Kristaps Porzingis, finished with just two points and missed all eight of his shots from the field. The team had just recently matched a franchise-best start at 17-2. "In the second half, I was better, felt better".

The Lakers have been able to get away with some stretches of sloppy play the past few weeks due to their talent level and how much better that was than everyone they faced.

Doncic went for 16 points, 5 assists and 4 rebounds in the third quarter proving instrumental when the Mavericks went on a 28-5 run, with Lakers struggling to find any defensive solutions to slow the Slovenian down. LeBron almost had a triple-double himself, as he grabbed nine boards and dished out eight assists. They are deep at every position, so the purple and gold are going to have to come out as the aggressors from the tip if they want to earn a win.

Smart left the game not to return, but the real concern is this is the same injury - and Smart said the same spot - that caused him to miss about a month last season.
