Snyder said, "It will be an entirely new thing, and, especially talking to those who have seen the released movie, a new experience apart from that movie".
Snyder completed the majority of work on "Justice League" in 2016, but stepped away from post-production and editing in light of a family tragedy. However, he had to quit the project due to the unfortunate death of his daughter.
Released in November 2017, the film earned mixed reviews from critics and audiences alike, praising the action and performances from Gadot and Miller while criticizing every other aspect of the film, namely the inconsistent tone that many fault Joss Whedon (The Avengers) for after taking over directorial duties from Snyder. (Remember the moustache?) They wondered why the changes were made.
Initially, Snyder gave the studio a four-hour version of the film which he then trimmed to 2 hours and 20 minutes.
No specific date in 2021 was given for the new version of the film. Soon, the demand to release the Snyder Cut began with petitions floated on social media.
After it left theaters, fans online started calling on Warner Bros.to release a cut closer to Snyder's vision, and the "Release the Snyder Cut" movement has flared up again and again over last three years. "Thanks to the partnership at Warner Bros. and the relentless pursuit of the entire WarnerMax team we are able to deliver this incredibly exciting moment for Zack, the fans and HBO Max". His wife and production partner, Deborah Snyder, added, "With the new platform and streaming services, you can have something like this".
Now visual effects work, which would be most of the work that would need to be done, is some of the safest work available in the industry and one of the few things still up-and-running remotely.
