Joe Manganiello cast as Deathstroke in upcoming 'Batman' movie

Joe Manganiello is ready to go toe-to-toe with the Batman.

In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Geoff Johns, DC Comics' chief creative officer - who also serves as one of the architects of the DC Extended Universe and is co-writing the solo Batman movie with Affleck - revealed that Manganiello was the actor portraying Deathstroke in the video. Becoming a killer for hire, he was introduced as an enemy of the Teen Titans before being established as a frequent antagonist and foil to Batman with ties to some of the Dark Knight's biggest enemies. The character, whose real name is Slade Wilson, is an expert assassin with super strength and stamina.

Johns reportedly could not say whether Manganiello would appear in Justice League as well. Will he be tasked with taking down the Batman in a more up-close-and-personal manner than the convoluted plan that Lex Luthor devised in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice? He played Flash Thompson in the 2002 version of Spider-Man, as well as Alcide Herveaux in the HBO series True Blood.

Johns, who is co-writing Batman with Affleck, declined to comment on whether Deathstroke would appear in Zack Snyder's "Justice League", which is now in production.
