Jacksonville Jaguars, Urban Meyer in advanced talks about coaching opening, sources say

Urban Meyer on the sideline at the Big Ten Championship Game

I've stood within a few feet of Urban Meyer when he won three different national championships, but the happiest I've ever seen him was in the stadium where he'll now coach home games.

Meyer will be taking over a team that has the No. 1 pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. New Orleans is scheduled to face the AFC East in 2021 before drawing the AFC North in 2022, with their next matchup with the entire AFC South the following year.

Nearly two years after announcing his retirement from OH state, Urban Meyer has his next job as a coach. He has since worked as a college football studio analyst for Fox Sports.

"Urban Meyer is who we want and need, a leader, victor and champion who demands excellence and produces results", Khan's statement read.

"This is a great day for Jacksonville and Jaguars fans everywhere", he said in a press release.

Meyer brings a 187-32 record - with an 85.3 win percentage - to the NFL from his time in college football, spanning spells at Bowling Green (2001-02), Utah (2003-04), Florida (2005-10) and Ohio State (2012-18).

Check out the audio above as Smith details why the combination of Trevor Lawrence, the most cap space in the league, young studs like James Robinson, DJ Chark, & Myles Jack, and Meyer's intuitive knowledge of many aspects of the pro game makes his chances at winning big with the Jags very high.

Meyer replaces Doug Marrone who was sacked after going 1-15 this season and 23-43 overall. Now, he will be tasked with revamping a club that went 1-15 last season. Jacksonville now has the No. 1 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Once he returned to the sideline, he led Ohio State to a national title within three years.
