100 health workers take part in COVID vaccine dry run at four hospitals

The eagerness among people to get vaccinated comes in the backdrop of the news that India's drug regulatory expert panel on Friday recommended the emergency use of the AstraZeneca-Oxford vaccine against Covid-19.

"The Covid-19 vaccination in Kulgam district was administered to beneficiaries at District Hospital Kulgam and Community Health Centres of Yaripora and Kujjar, where all the operational guidelines for COVID 19 vaccination roll out were followed in dry run activities", he said. The drill was carried out on 75 health workers registered in the three hospitals between 9 am to 11 am.

Elaborating the vaccination process, he said physical verification would be done for the persons to be administered with the vaccine.

Ahead of Covid-19 vaccination rollout, the Jammu and Kashmir Health department Saturday held a dry run for its health care workers across J&K, officials said. In Jammu the dry run was held at CHC Marh, Sarwal Hospital and CHC Bishnah.

Director Health Services, Jammu, Dr Renu Sharma and Director of Health and Family Welfare supervised the Covid-19 dry-run on beneficiaries.

COVID-19 vaccines do not belong to any political party, but humanity, National Conference leader Omar Abdullah said on Saturday, hours after Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav termed coronavirus vaccines to be rolled out in the country as "vaccine of the BJP".

At each of the three camps, 25 health workers earlier registered as "beneficiaries" through specific applications had to undergo mock vaccination in the presence of representatives of World Health Organisation, Unicef, and health officials of central and state governments. "When we saw the camp at Amdanga hospital, we rushed there but was told that it was only a mock drill", he said.

Responding to a question, Satija said the State has sufficient number of cold storage facility to preserve vaccine and is also in process of procuring 40 ice land coolers from Government of India.

After receiving the vaccine, the CoWIN App will be updated and the beneficiary is then led to the observation area where two vaccination officers will give Infections and prevention control messaging and will support and observe the persons for the next 30 minutes.

Financial Commissioner Health & Medical Education, Atal Dulloo, inaugurated and monitored the sessions of administration of Covid-19 vaccination to the beneficiaries at the selected sites, an official spokesperson said. The health workers details have been uploaded on the COVID portal.
