Ice Storm Warning: Freezing rain will cause ice accumulation

Monday forecast

"Otherwise, a raw and unpleasant day with northeasterly winds up to 15 miles per hour and highs in the mid to upper 20s across most of the forecast area", the discussion continues for a region encompassing New Jersey, eastern Pennsylvania and portions of DE and Maryland.

"While it may not sound like a big deal to those in the Midwest, the last time we saw 1 or more inches of snow here was on Feb 10th, 2019", tweeted the Portland National Weather Service office. And it could affect all of north Alabama and a decent chunk of north-central Alabama.

Another round of Freezing Rain and Ice to kick off the weekend.

Snowfall is expected to change over to light freezing rainfall or sleet by Sunday, mainly across northern Connecticut, Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts, where milder air should develop south of the Massachusetts Turnpike, according to the agency.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch, in effect from late Saturday night through Monday afternoon.

The second round of potential winter precipitation will arrive late Sunday and into Monday.

Among the areas coated with freezing rain during the Thursday morning rush hour was Fort Worth, Texas, where police said icy road surfaces were a factor in a traffic wreck involving 133 vehicles that began in the express lanes of Interstate-35. Little or no snow and sleet accumulation expected.

There will be more snow at times during that stretch, but sleet and ice could pose more significant threats, with the possibility of potentially major power outages from damage to utility lines and trees as well as treacherous travel.

Drier and colder weather is expected starting on Tuesday. Expect mostly rain from both chances as temperatures warm into the 50s.
