Holy Crisis! Burt Ward To Appear In This Year's DC TV Crossover

Brandon Routh to Play Superman

Like the fans out there, not long after the news hit the 'net, Routh took to social media to react to his return as Superman. The real bombshell here is that Routh and Hoechlin both will be playing Superman. According to Deadline, Routh will be playing The Atom in the same crossover event, so it will be interesting to see if they provide a storyline explanation for the similarities.

Routh will also be featured as The Atom during the event. In fact, Arrowverse loyals will know Routh from his role as Ray Palmer (better known as the Atom), which he's taken to Arrow, The Flash, and DC's Legends of Tomorrow, on which he's now a main player.

Tyler Hoechlin, who portrays Superman in current TV series Supergirl, is also suiting up as the character for the television special, alongside Routh, who will portray an older Man of Steel. While there are many at this point who best know Routh for being Ray Palmer on Arrow/Legends of Tomorrow, he'll always be Superman to a certain generation of people.

Brandon Routh, who now plays Ray Palmer/The Atom on Legends of Tomorrow, will also play Superman during the Arrowverse crossover Crisis on Infinite Earths. Were you a fan of his performance as the character in Superman Returns? No other details about the event are now known. A few years later Zack Snyder would do a reboot featuring Henry Cavill in Man of Steel, Batman v Superman and Justice League. And as Superman, both he and Hoechlin will suit up, putting on the iconic cape.

To handle something called a Crisis on Infinite Earths, the architects of the Arrowverse are bringing in not one, but two Supermen for the upcoming crossover event.

Crisis on Infinite Earths shares the same name with a 1980s comic book series by writer Marv Wolfman and artist George Perez.

Either way, the Crisis on Infinite Earths Arrowverse crossover will run for five episodes, starting in December 2019 and finishing in January 2020.
