Head coach Anthony Lynn fired by Chargers after four seasons

The Jaguars went 23-43 in four-plus seasons under Marrone.

As a player, Lynn - a running back - was mostly a reserve and special teams player, but he was on two Super Bowl-winning teams in Denver.

During his tenure with the Jaguars, Marrone had a carousel of starting quarterbacks. Four teams were more worthy of the playoffs than Washington.

"As the search for our general manager continues, now the quest begins to find a head coach who shares my ambition for the Jaguars and our fans, whose loyalty and faith are overdue to be rewarded", Jaguars owner Shad Khan said.

"As we all know, this is a results-driven business and, simply put, the results of the past two years have fallen short of expectations".

Lynn leaves behind one of the most attractive head coach vacancies in the National Football League following a record-breaking season from outstanding rookie quarterback Justin Herbert, who surpassed Baker Mayfield for most touchdown passes from a rookie in National Football League history.

Lynn was hired in 2017 after ending the 2016 season as the interim head coach of the Buffalo Bills. However, the team fell to the New England Patriots. It was elusive to try and replicate the achievement.

This morning I informed Anthony Lynn that we made the decision to part ways with him as our head coach.

It was the first time Marrone was sacked in three decades as a coach.

There was always a good chance that Marrone would be fired, especially with the Jaguars also searching for a new general manager.

The Jaguars have a ton of money to spend in terms of cap space for next season, making this coaching position even more attractive, and if Clemson quarterback is taken with the top pick in the NFL Draft, the Jags could have the most NFL ready prospect at the position since Andrew Luck.

A hot candidate to land in Jacksonville, Clemson star Lawrence is considered to be the centerpiece of the team's rebuilding effort.
