Google, Facebook to Let Employees Work from Home Through 2020

"Responsible companies will need to embrace technology that measures employee productivity transparently, and in a way that both managers and employees can benefit".

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said last month that because most Facebook employees are able to do their jobs remotely, the company felt "a responsibility to allow people who don't have this flexibility to access shared public resources first". It is also said that employees who can work from home, they can do their work from home till the end of the year, but those who cannot work without coming to office, they can start coming to office from July.

Software giant Microsoft is likely to extend work-from-home arrangements until next year in the wake of the ongoing pandemic. Talking about Facebook, Facebook offices will open on July 6, but the policy from Work from Home will remain in force till the end of December. Earlier, Google had told all the employees through email that it is not possible to come to office before June but now it has been made a decision to extend the work from home.

The Chairman of early stage startup accelerator and venture fund, Axilor Ventures, also said that numerous smaller Indian startups have found that they are as effective working out of home and are now wondering whether they require permanent office space at all.

"Facebook has taken the next step in its return to work philosophy".

Issues like time-lapse in communication either caused by distractions at home, unreliable power or bad internet connections have been known to delay completion of tasks.
