Google aims to train two million Indian Android devs by 2018

Google plans to train 2 million Android developers in India during the next three years, which begs the question as to whether the country will become the next outsourcing hub for advertising and mobile app product development.

The Android Skilling program will be introduced for free across hundreds of public and private universities and training schools through a specially designed, in-person program this year.

The team has stretched the opportunity further by allowing the complete course to get incorporated under the regular course module of different universities via National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC).

Google has launched a new initiative called "Android Skilling" which aims to attract the growing developer talent of India to Android over competing platforms.

"The majority of India's Internet user base, today, accesses the Internet from their mobile phones, and nearly all the future Internet users in India and numerous world's emerging countries will be mobile only", Google said in a statement.

The initiative sounds progressive but it all leads to promoting Android development, which is exactly what Google wants, more Android developers would mean more apps which will attract more consumers to the mobile platform. Considering the number of developers in India who can be trained, Google can expect to get some innovate apps and ideas for its smartphone users. The similar move came from Apple as well when it announced to set up a Design and Development accelerator program by early 2017 to sharpen the skills of potential developers in India for its iOS platform. The new facility would give development access to tools to create innovative apps for customers around the world, he said.

Google hopes to reach 2000 universities and train 4000 faculty in its bid to train some 250,000 developers each year.

Before it's here, it's on the Bloomberg Terminal. As long as they take the course and also the examination will be able to own the Android Skills Certification, which implies a job at Google.

India will have 4m software developers by 2018, becoming the largest population of developers in the world. The courseware and all practicals have been made available free of charge. Apart from these university-level collaborations, Google has also partnered several training companies such as Edureka, Koenig, Manipal Global, Simplilearn, Udacity and UpGrad that are going to be treated as Authorized Android Training Partners in India.
