Goodyear distances itself from viral image that drew Trump's ire

White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany on Wednesday defended President Trump's call for a boycott against Goodyear Tire and Rubber attempting to bolster Trump's unwavering support for law enforcement officers.

Goodyear is the largest tire company in North America. "We'll see what happens", Trump told reporters at the White House. Goodyear initially declined to comment on the slide's origins when asked about it by local media on Tuesday, but seems to have had a change of heart on seeing the president's call for a boycott the following morning.

"I think he's done plenty for companies in OH and elsewhere, far more than Joe Biden ever did", she said.

Politicians and workers rallied in Akron, Ohio, on Thursday against President Donald Trump's call to boycott Goodyear tires-a move Bill Conner, sub-district director for District 1 for the United Steelworkers, said should worry everyone, not just Goodyear employees.

The US president recently slammed the company after leaks appeared on Twitter suggesting that within its "Zero Tolerance" policy, the company has banned its employees from wearing "MAGA" hats. The "Make America Great Again" slogan was listed as "unacceptable".

"But especially during a pandemic where tens of thousands of Ohioans are unemployed and businesses all over the state are forced to close because President Trump refuses to lead during this national crisis".

"At the end of the day, individuals get to decide how they want to present themselves", she said.

Goodyear is an American company based in Akron, Ohio, and most of its major competitors are based in Europe or Asia. Trump's OH campaign spokesperson did not comment and referred to the White House for further comment.

The selloff came as Trump called for a boycott of Goodyear following the release of an internal company note telling employees they can not wear MAGA garb.

Goodyear said its rules forbid activism that falls "outside the scope of racial justice and equity issues".

The tweet may have merely dug Goodyear's hole deeper, as the company soon disabled comments on its statement.

"Goodyear is a great OH company that employs a lot of Ohioans. And while you're at it buy a set of tires from Cooper Tire which is another great OH company", Husted said.

In early 2016, before winning the last election, Trump called for a boycott of Apple products until the tech giant agreed to U.S. government demands that it unlock the cellphone of one of the killers in an attack in California. "They'll be able to get a good job because we set a jobs record over the last quarter. You'll be able to get another good job".
