Glen Head Rep. Montesano wants impeachment of Gov. Cuomo

The so-called fact-check singles out former assistant secretary for public affairs at the Department of Health and Human Services Michael Caputo for faulting Cuomo for enacting policies that caused thousands of COVID-19 deaths in elderly assisted care and nursing home residents throughout the state.
State lawmakers have been calling for investigations, stripping Cuomo of his emergency powers and even his resignation after new details emerged this week about why certain nursing home data wasn't disclosed for months, despite requests from lawmakers and others. "While the introduction of COVID-19 positive patients into nursing homes no doubt had an effect on infection spread, Caputo's statement suggests it was exclusively responsible".
At one point Cuomo tried to address the concerns and questions from the public and the press, saying, "I understand they were not answered quickly enough".
Late last week and over the weekend, there were a number of headlines about Cuomo's office withholding nursing home data from state legislators out of fear that said data would be used by the Trump administration to go after Cuomo's administration.
Cuomo also cited a "toxic political environment", that was backdrop amid the controversy, saying, "Everything gets politicized and there's political spin and then there are facts - two very different things and I just want to be sure people have facts".
"The right to vote is one of the sacred pillars of our democracy, and as we continue to fight the war on COVID, we can't put democracy on hold", Governor Cuomo said. We told both houses, the Assembly and the Senate, that we had a DOJ request for information and we were prioritizing that. The New York State Legislature also sent a letter asking for information on nursing homes. By Oct. 2020, DOJ expanded an investigation into whether NY undercounted COVID-19 deaths in nursing homes.
"The DOH has always fully and publicly reported all COVID-19 deaths in nursing homes and hospitals", Cuomo said.
"He starts tweeting that we killed everyone in nursing homes", she said.
Michael Montesano, of Glen Head, says he plans to ask the state legislature to consider the impeachment. "They're all made on the best information the medical professionals had at the time".
He said that a "void' was created by own administration's failure to provide information in timely manner, allowing "conspiracy theories" and "disinformation" to fill the void and create a narrative".
Governor Cuomo's failure to apologize this afternoon was a shocking slap in the face to the New Yorkers who have lost loved ones to COVID-19. The truth is it was in the middle of a bad pandemic.
