Ghosn escape mystery close to being solved as two USA men arrested

Carlos Ghosn fled to Lebanon at the end of last year

Tokyo prosecutors in January obtained arrest warrants for former US Green Beret Michael Taylor and his son Peter Taylor in January.

Japan in January issued arrest warrants for both men along with a third, George-Antoine Zayek, in connection with facilitating the December 29, 2019 escape.

"During these visits, Peter Taylor met with Ghosn at least seven times, as reflected in meeting records that Ghosn was required to maintain as a condition of his bail and/or video surveillance camera images", one of the documents alleges. Chairman Carlos Ghosn flee Japan while awaiting trial on financial misconduct charges were arrested Wednesday, the Justice Department said. Ghosn remains in Lebanon after escaping from a hotel-allegedly with the help of the Taylors-in Japan previous year.

Lawyers for the Taylors could not be immediately identified.

USA law enforcement learned Peter Taylor had booked a flight from Boston to Beirut departing on Wednesday with a layover in London and he was arrested by United States marshals as was Michael Taylor. The two told Japanese officials they were musicians.

"Michel Taylor is not just capable of fleeing while on bond - he is an expert in the subject", the USA said in a court filing. While they were en route, Ghosn was returning to the Grand Hyatt hotel room, officials said. Peter Taylor, then went to Narita Airport and boarded a flight to China.

USA legal papers recount the details of Ghosn's escape including his departure from Japan hidden in a large black box aboard a private jet.

At approximately 9:57 p.m., Michael Taylor and Zayek left Room 4609 with luggage, including the two large [instrument] boxes, and departed for Kansai International Airport. In order to avoid detection, Ghosn was smuggled onto the aircraft in a large musical instrument case, according to court filings.

Shortly afterwards Michael Taylor and Mr Zayek are claimed to have been seen leaving the hotel for the airport carrying the boxes, which Mr Ghosn is alleged to have hidden inside. About two hours later, Taylor and Zayek left the hotel with luggage, including two large black boxes, and headed to the Osaka airport.

The document says the boxes were loaded onto a private jet.

Two days later, on December 31, 2019, Ghosn made a public announcement that he was in Lebanon. The same day Tokyo District Court revoked his bail.

The U.S. Marshals service arrested a member of the U.S. Army Special Forces and his son in Harvard, Massachusetts on Wednesday in response to an extradition request from the government of Japan. Over the years, he has been hired by parents to rescue abducted children, gone undercover for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in a sting on a MA drug gang and worked as a contractor for the USA military in Iraq and Afghanistan.
