The 530e plug-in hybrid comes with a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder engine that makes 288 BHP and 420 Nm. Thank God. BMW's "SensaTec" synthetic leather upholstery is standard on all models, except for the M550i, which gets real leather, but those who need the real material no matter what Nappa leather can go for in any model, of course, at an additional cost.

Right at the top of the Series 5 hierarchy is still the 4.4-liter, twin-turbo V8 that generates 523 hp and 553 pound-feet.

If we believe the reports, the company says that the 540i will have a 48-volt mild system that will improve the overall efficiency of the vehicle.

Speaking of those headlights, Adaptive LED illuminators are made standard throughout the range, but fancier tech such as BMW Laserlight remain an optional extra.

Inside, the cabin should be entirely recognisable to anyone with even a cursory familiarity with the pre-facelift 5 Series.

The most obvious change to the 5 Series has been with its exterior design, with a new-look LED headlight cluster that eschews the hexagonal design of the outgoing model for an L-shaped motif also seen on the updated 7 Series. Other update includes an updated head and taillight as well as front and rear bumpers.

The BMW 5 series will have the following cars in its line-up: 530i, 540i, 530e, and M550i.

BMW has revealed the mid-life facelift for its 5 Series large sedan and wagon range, with the new-look model set to touch down in Australia in October with a range of powertrains on offer. With improvements in exterior and interior design, aerodynamics and technology, plus the introduction of a new 48v mild hybrid system, this generation of 5 Series continues to deliver cutting-edge technology and performance into the sixth decade of 5 Series production.? Taillights are also mildly altered, described as "three-dimensional sculpted", and each 5 Series now gains trapezoidal exhaust tips. The synthetic upholstery and contrast stitching trim the dash of the M550i, and can be ordered for the other models.

Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is now available, while BMW's Intelligent Personal Assistant functionality has been expanded. The navigation system has new cloud-based maps that can create faster routes and recalculate routes based on real-time traffic data.

As far as driver aids are concerned, lane control and collision prevention have been added to the list and the governing OS updated to the latest version. An option package adds adaptive cruise control, front cross-traffic alerts, blind-spot crash prevention, and a system that handles the steering, brakes, and acceleration at speeds slower than 40 miles per hour. BMW has already released prices, which start at $55,195 for the 530i. All-wheel drive is available as an option. All prices include a $995 destination fee.
