The Brisbane lockdown has ended but 10 days of restrictions remain

But just hours after the announcement, the partner of the COVID-positive hotel quarantine worker who'd caught the highly infectious United Kingdom strain of the virus, triggering the lockdown, also contracted the virus.

Restrictions for impacted areas of Greater Brisbane will be eased from 6:00 pm today and ACT residents now in the Greater Brisbane area will need to follow the Queensland Health advice, including wearing a mask for a further 10 days.

The Premier said the highly contagious United Kingdom variant was "a whole new ballgame".

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announced that the lockdown is set to end.

It comes ahead of the official announcement of the state's overnight case numbers following the lockdown that ended on Monday evening.

United played Brisbane Roar in Redcliffe on Thursday night and arrived back in Canberra late on Friday before Greater Brisbane went into a three-day lockdown.

Federal Senator Matt Canavan labelled the lockdown "a massive over-reaction", saying the government was "jumping at shadows" at a great cost to local businesses, but Ms Palaszczuk defended the stance.

"It's a very clear signal about how we can all cooperate together".

"The three days was the initial lockdown which was recommended".

"Especially in those big shopping centres, retail outlets, cinemas, churches, masks must be worn at those venues".

Under the new rules, carrying a mask will be mandatory at all times when outside the home and they will need to be worn in a range of indoor settings, including public transport, shopping centres, supermarkets and gyms.

"This has been something unprecedented, a world first and an Australian first", Ms Palaszczuk said.

Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young says the man has been in quarantine since January 7 and additional contact tracing is underway. Weddings can have up to 100 people (no restriction on dancing).

Other restrictions on visits to hospitals, aged care, disability accommodation and prisons will still remain while the Gabba cricket Test is also due to go ahead on January 15, but spectator capacity at the ground will be capped at 50 per cent.

He visited the Acacia Ridge Bunnings store between 2pm and 2.40pm and Sunnybank Cellars in Sunnybank Hills on January 6 between 2.05pm and 2.15pm.

Queensland's Chief Health Officer has stressed the importance of getting tested if any Covid-19 symptoms are present after the partner of the hotel cleaner infected with the United Kingdom variant also tested positive.

There were also no COVID-19 cases in hotel quarantine on Tuesday.

The venues include Woolworths at Calamvale North between 11am and 12pm on January 3, Coles Sunnybank Hills Shoppingtown between 7.30am and 8am on January 5 and a Sunnybank Hills newsagent between 8am and 8.15am on January 5.

"Like most elite events a year ago which saw Queensland host several sporting bubbles, COVID-19 has made preparing for Friday's Test anything but routine".

She then flew into Brisbane at 11pm on January 5 on a Jetstar JQ570 flight. Western Australia has shut its borders to Queensland as Victoria has introduces a quarantine requirement.

Dr Coleman said those coming out of quarantine or who have been in Brisbane during this time should check the Queensland Health website daily.

Dr Young says the lockdown allowed contact-tracers to find 370 close contacts of the cleaner.
