Crews from across from fire stations across south London responded to the fire at the Baitul Futuh mosque in Morden, which was reported by a member of the public just after midday on Saturday.

A fire at a mosque in south London is being tackled by 70 firefighters, amid reports a huge part of the building is burning.

London Ambulance Service said they have treated a man in his 40s for smoke inhalation who has now been taken to hospital.

Roads have been closed and drivers are being advised to avoid the area.

The mosque, which was completed in 2003, is reported to be the largest in Western Europe, covering 5.2 acres.

Up to 10,000 people can fit inside the mosque, but it is not known how many were in the building at the time.

A large fire has broken out at a mosque.

The brigade was called at just after 12:00 BST to the mosque, which also has a community centre attached.

Another Twitter user wrote: "May Allah keep everyone at the Baitul-Futuh mosque save".

"It started at around 11.30am and the fire service are trying to establish the cause".
