FDA Commissioner Enters Self-Quarantine After Exposure To Coronavirus

Hahn immediately took a diagnostic test and was tested negative himself for the novel coronavirus, FDA spokesman Michael Felberbaum said in an emailed statement. "He will be teleworking for the next two weeks", a CDC spokesperson told CNN. He is "feeling fine" and has no symptoms, the statement added.

The FDA and CDC have not disclosed the identity of the person who had tested positive and with whom the agency leaders came into contact. Per (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) guidelines, he is now in self-quarantine for the next two weeks.

Both men will testify by video - "due to these unusual circumstances" - at Tuesday's Senate Health Committee hearing about the government response to COVID-19. Hahn and Redfield will also testify but via videoconference.

Newsweek has contacted the White House and a representative for Dr. Fauci for comment.

Multiple outlets have reported that the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases is taking precautionary measures in light of the fact that Vice President Mike Pence's Press Secretary Katie Miller tested positive for the virus.

Miller is the wife of one of Trump's senior advisers Stephen Miller, tested positive on Friday, raising alarm about the virus' potential spread within the White House's innermost circle. She is the second White House staffer to check constructive, after a USA navy personnel serving as a private valet to the president. Nonetheless, officials said they were stepping up safety protocols for the complex. Miller is married to top Trump adviser Stephen Miller. But top officials have held meetings on a daily basis without wearing masks. The generals around Trump also did not wear a mask, but participants did sit a few feet away from each other. The 60-year-old tested negative for the virus.
