Fauci says Trump's talk of Covid-19 'cure' causing confusion

In a call earlier on Friday, a top USA health official said the government was expecting to provide more than 1 million free doses of antibody treatments to COVID-19 patients, similar to the one that was administered to Trump.

"I think this was a blessing from God, that I caught it. "This was a blessing in disguise."I caught it, I heard about this drug, I said let me take it, it was my suggestion".

But when the president faced a deadly encounter with covid-19, his administration raised no objections over the fact that the new drugs also relied on fetal cells, and anti-abortion campaigners were silent too.

What Happened: Schleifer said on CBS News' "Face the Nation" program on Sunday that Trump's was "a case of one", and the real evidence has to come out of larger randomized clinical trials.

Regeneron said that there is no fetal tissue present in the final product.

Regeneron (NASDAQ:REGN) gained more than 1% in midday trading in NY trading Thursday in the wake of President Trump's video being posted. The cocktail of monoclonal antibodies an experimental therapeutic for coronavirus which is still in the trial phase and has not been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) yet.

The greatest challenge ahead, Woodcock said, will be coordinating sites where patients can receive the antibody treatments, which must be administered intravenously by health-care professionals, unlike vaccines, which can be given from the more convenient confines of a pharmacy.

Top U.S. infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci, speaking on Monday on CNN, said he was "strongly suspicious" that Regeneron's drug has contributed to Trump's progress. It said earlier this week that it expects to produce around one million doses of the treatment this year.

The experimental therapy is 1 of several monoclonal antibody treatments in testing that may help treat patients with COVID-19. The government is acquiring doses through its Strategic National Stockpile as they are manufactured, he said.

Shares of Regeneron, up almost 6% so far this month, closed at $591.69 on Wednesday.
