Ernesto Valverde hopeful over Ousmane Dembele injury

The France global Dembele - signed from £96.8m from Borussia Dortmund last month - was forced off on in his first league start for Barca in the 2-1 Liga win at Getafe after only 29 minutes on Saturday with tests revealing the extent of the problem.

He hobbled off the pitch after just 25 minutes in his first La Liga start as Barca beat Getafe 2-1 on Saturday.

The statement further added that the French player "will undergo surgical treatment by Dr. Sakari Orava this coming week in Finland".

A statement on the club's website said the 20-year-old France worldwide had ruptured "his tendon in the femoral bicep in his left thigh".

Dembele will be a huge miss for Ernesto Valverde, who has limited options in attack alongside superstar Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.

The Frenchman, the most expensive player in the history of Barçelona, joined the Spanish club this summer from Borussia Dortmund for a fee of 105 million euros ($125.4 million) plus bonus to replace Neymar.

"According to the medical announcement that the club made public this Sunday, Dembele will be out of action for three-and-a-half to four months".
