Donald Trump introduces Mike Pence as "my partner in this campaign"

After weeks of intrigue, and a chaotic 24 hours, Donald Trump's Donald Trump is choosing Indiana Gov. Mike Pence as his running mate. In March 2015, he signed "the religious objections" bill which allowed businesses to deny service to gay people for religious reasons.

Other conservatives were also heartened by Trump's VP pick, which the businessman announced in a tweet ahead of a joint appearance in his hometown of NY on Saturday.
And while Trump said he primarily based his decision by examining Pence's work as IN governor, he added that party unity was also a factor, without elaborating.
NBC quoted one anonymous source familiar with the candidate's thinking, saying Trump felt "painted into a corner" with Pence because of flaws and conflicts with the other finalists, former House Speaker New Gingrich and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.
Presidential campaigns are expensive, even for a billionaire real estate mogul, so Pence's proven fundraising record and close ties to the influential Koch brothers and their wealthy donors will prove particularly advantageous to the Trump team in the months ahead.
Trump has made renegotiating trade deals a central theme of his campaign, while Pence has spoken in favor of trade agreements.
Most state Republicans praised Pence for his experience, while a Democratic congressman said Pence magnifies the flaws in the GOP presidential ticket.
In a Fox News interview on Thursday night, Trump said Pence had done a great job in IN and that of all the people he had interviewed for the job, "there's nobody that agrees with me fully on everything".
He'd planned to introduce his pick at a news conference Friday morning in NY, but said on Twitter Thursday evening that he would postpone the event "in light of the awful attack". There were no "Trump-Pence" signs in the room, which appeared dark and somewhat subdued on television.
"I'm a Christian, a conservative and a Republican, in that order", is one of Mr Pence's most famous quotes.
That Republican also spoke on condition of anonymity, because the person was not authorized to publicly discuss the conversation. In addition to Pence's deadline in IN, the Republican convention kicks off in Cleveland Monday.
