Gunn offered a statement Friday, thanking his fans for their continued support.
Gunn was sacked last July after tweets from 2008 and 2011 resurfaced on the conservative website Daily Caller, and included offensive jokes like, "I like when little boys touch me in my silly place" and "The best thing about being raped is when you're done being raped and it's like 'whew this feels great, not being raped!'" In the past, I have apologised for humour of mine that hurt people. "Love you to you all". To paraphrase Quicksilver, I didn't see this coming, did you? "My days saying something just because it's shocking and trying to get a reaction are over". Now he will finish that pic before turning to Guardians 3.
Following his firing past year, Gunn was snapped up by Warner Bros to write and direct The Suicide Squad sequel, starring Idris Elba, out in 2021. "I'm helping to decide what projects will be pursued outside of Guardians 3, where Vol. 3 is going to lead to and then what the next cosmic characters we will focus on will be and how that will happen".
In the aftermath of Gunn's firing, Guardians of the Galaxy stars penned an open letter expressing their support for him.
