Sources told TMZ that Spector's death was related to COVID-19 complications but law enforcement officials said the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office medical examiner will confirm details at a later date.

Spector became known for his "Wall of Sound" orchestral arrangements in the 1960s in pop hits like "Da Doo Ron Ron", "Be My Baby" and "He's a Rebel".

Music producer Phil Spector and his attorney, Roger Rosen, right, leave Los Angeles Superior Court for a break during the start of jury selection in Spectors' murder trial. As CNN reported in 2009, Spector's driver testified that he saw the producer holding a gun and saying, "I think I killed somebody", on the night of Clarkson's death.

After a 2007 mistrial, he was retried in 2009 and convicted of second-degree murder and sentenced to 19 years in prison. In a memoir, Ronnie claimed Spector had held her prisoner in their mansion and threatened her life.

"I knew Beethoven was more important than whoever was playing his music", he once said.

The graphic testimony at his murder trial of repeated gun-toting rages only served to confirm what had been common knowledge within the music world for years.

"Meeting him and falling in love was like a fairytale", she continued. He also worked with Harrison and Lennon on their albums, among other influential artists. He reportedly fired a shot in the studio during an acrimonious recording session with John Lennon.

In February 2003, actress Lana Clarkson was found dead at his house in Alhambra, California with a bullet wound to her head.

"I would say I'm probably relatively insane, to an extent", he said. I have devils inside that fight me. "I have not been happy".
