Dead And At Least 8 Others Wounded In 'Chaotic' Virginia Beach Shootings

A pair of overnight shootings along the beachfront in Virginia Beach left two people dead and eight wounded in a scene described by authorities on Saturday as "very chaotic".

Virginia Beach police initially confirmed there had been a shooting at the oceanfront with "several victims".

At a second location, there was another crime scene where a suspect "relating to the above incident" engaged with an officer, which resulted in a police-involved shooting.

A police officer also shot a man to death at the scene.

That story may now be changing, however, as the VBPD's official press release currently says that "o$3 ne adult female victim succumbed to her injuries from a gunshot wound on the scene" - in an apparent reference to the original mass shooting incident.

A police officer was also hit by a vehicle and has non-life-threatening injuries described as "bumps and scrapes".

Around 11:20 p.m. on Friday, police officers responded to multiple gunshots in the oceanfront resort area of Virginia Beach.

No suspect information was immediately available.

Chief Neudigate said all the violent incidents occurred outdoors and everything was now stable.

He said several people were in police custody but officers are still investigating whether and how they were involved in the shooting.

In addition to the shootings, a police officer was struck by a auto and taken to the hospital with none life-threatening injuries.

The shooting is being investigated by the Virginia Beach Police Department's Detective Bureau, the Office of the Commonwealth's Attorney, and the Virginia Beach Police Department's Office of Internal Affairs.

"We have a very chaotic incident, a very chaotic night", Neudigate said during the news conference. The officer was placed on administrative assignment pending an investigation, per standard procedure, the department said. Multiple roads were blocked off while police worked in the area.
