COVID-19 cases surpass 500000 mark in India

Delhi, Chennai, Thane, Mumbai, Palghar, Pune, Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, Ahmedabad and Faridabad are 10 cities and districts that contributed to 54.47 per cent of the total caseload reported till Thursday, a health ministry official said. There are now 1,89,463 active cases and 2,85,636 recoveries. The recovered cases have exceeded the active cases by 98,493 as on Saturday, the union health ministry said in a statement. The high number of cases are being attributed to increased testing by the state government. "With this encouraging status, the recovery rate is touching 58.13%", it said.

According to the ICMR, a cumulative total of 82,27,802 samples have been tested up to June 27 and 2,31,095 samples have been tested on Saturday.

Number of cases increased to 864 in Himachal Pradesh, as the state reported three fresh cases in the last 24 hours; 49 people are awaiting their sample results. With 410 deaths in 24 hours, the number of deaths due to COVID-19 stands at 16,095, as per government data.

Coronavirus cases in Maharashtra have climbed to 1,59,133 while Delhi's tally stands at 80,188. 5,480 have recovered and 157 deaths have been reported.

More than 70 percent deaths took place due to comorbidities, it said.

States with more than 10,000 cases include Gujarat with 30,709 cases and 1,789 deaths, Uttar Pradesh (21,549), Rajasthan (16,944), Madhya Pradesh (12,965), West Bengal (16,711), Haryana (13,427), Karnataka, (11,923), Andhra Pradesh (12,285) and Telangana (13,436) cases.

India has the fourth-highest number of coronavirus cases among 10 nations worst-hit by coronavirus.

It has risen to 8,931 in Bihar, 6,966 in Jammu and Kashmir, 6,816 in Assam and 6,350 in Odisha.

Delhi crossed 75,000 mark as the national capital recorded 3,460 cases and 63 deaths. A total of 15,685 people have died from the disease there, including 385 in the 24 hours since the previous update. The capital, Delhi, has almost 80,000 Covid-19 cases and is mobilizing resources to provide extra space and medical personnel to quarantine and treat the infected.

Mizoram has 145 cases, Sikkim has 85, Andaman and Nicobar Islands has registered 59 infections so far while Meghalaya has recorded 46 cases.
