Ivory Coast's defender Serge Aurier kicks the ball during the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations group C football match between Morocco and Ivory Coast in Oyem on January 24, 2017.

Aurier was transported to hospital after being discovered with the gunshot wound in an industrial zone on the outskirts of Toulouse where he passed away a short time later.

Serge Aurier's brother, Cristopher, has been shot dead in Toulouse.

The UK Metro reports that the 26-year-old was shot twice in the stomach at a nightclub.

Police have opened an investigation into the matter, but at this stage the motive for the shooting is unknown and the suspect or suspects involved remain at large.

Most recently, Christopher Aurier had been playing for French amateur side Toulouse Rodeo.

He had a trial at Premier League promotion chasing Brentford in 2011.

Serge Aurier played in Sunday's 2-1 north London derby defeat of Arsenal.

From there, he signed for Tottenham in 2017 and has gone on to take in 80 appearances for the club.

He helped Spurs to the final of the Champions League last season where they were beaten by Liverpool in Madrid.
