Caught on camera: Collapse of New Orleans hotel under construction

They were bringing in a search and rescue team and drones to look for the people who were still missing.

EMS Director Emily Nichols said the victims taken to the hospital were "all stable at this time".

The person killed worked in the building, according to McConnell.

The emergency response hub in New Orleans, NOLA Ready, said the fire, ambulence and police departments were all responding at the scene.

The incident happened Saturday (Oct. 12) morning at around 9 am on the corner of Canal and North Rampart street. The facility was also set to be opened in Spring 2020.

The Hard Rock Hotel was under construction when a large section of it collapsed Saturday.

One person was pronounced dead at the site, a fire official said during a news conference.

The upper floors of the building began to fall on top of each other before one side of the building fell to the ground below, The Associated Press reported.

It was not immediately clear what caused the collapse. Others sought treatment on their own as well, bringing the injured tally into the "double digits", she said.

He asked that people stay away from the area and refrain from using drones for either personal or media purposes to view the damage.

He witnessed the collapse from a Tulane School of Public Health classroom in a nearby building.
